Paint protection and tinting questions answered

Questions we get asked.

Quick answers to the things customers ask us most.

What is paint protection film?

Paint protection film, or PPF, is a clear film applied over a car’s paintwork. It is designed to help protect the paint from stone chips, light scratches and everyday road grime.

Is the film cut in house?

Yes. Our paint protection film is cut in house and installed in our own workshop to the highest standards.

Who do you work with?

Chipshield has been running for 7 years, working with car enthusiasts, car dealerships and sports car clubs.

What is the difference between paint protection film and a ceramic coating?

Paint protection film is a physical layer designed to take knocks such as stone chips. A ceramic coating is a liquid layer that adds gloss and helps the car stay clean. Some owners choose one, some choose both, and we can talk you through which suits your car.

Should I have paint correction first?

Often, yes. Film and coatings go over whatever is on the paint, so marks left in the paint can end up sealed in. We can look at your car and tell you what we would suggest.

Is there a limit on how dark my windows can be tinted?

Yes. UK law sets limits on how dark the windscreen and front side windows can be. We talk through what is allowed with you before any film is fitted.
